3 ingredient nontoxic cleaner
This nontoxic cleaner has to be the easiest homemade cleaner around AND you can make it with ingredients that people generally have in their homes already, however, if you don’t have them on hand, they are easily available at any grocery store!
If you are trying to rid your home of toxins, this cleaner is one of the easiest ways to start. Cleaning products are probably some of the most used items in our homes, but they tend to be full of chemicals that you may not want near your family. You can rest assured, that if your child gets into this cleaner, you won’t need to make a call to poison control! Also, an added bonus to this nontoxic cleaner is that it’s very inexpensive!
I use this cleaner on everything from our windows to the toilets, and everything in between! However, I wouldn’t recommend using this on any cast iron cookware or unfinished wood.
This easy nontoxic cleaner is made with 3 ingredients: water, lemons and distilled vinegar. It’s as simple as that!
Why does this cleaner work?
- Citric acid in lemons has been known to have antibacterial and antiseptic properties, meaning it can kill mold, bacteria and mildew.
- Vinegar contains acetic acid which can kill bacteria and viruses.
- The oil in lemon rinds can help to cut through grease.
- Lemons smell so fresh and clean!
Recipe:
1 lemon
1/2 gallon white distilled vinegar
Filtered water
Slice lemon and put in a quart sized jar.
Fill with vinegar and leave in a dry, room temperature place for 1-2 weeks. Mix the vinegar and lemons once a day to ensure the lemons stay below the vinegar level.
Once vinegar/lemon infusion is ready, fill a glass spray bottle halfway with filtered water and fill remaining half with the vinegar infusion.
You should have a good amount of vinegar left over. I keep my jar of lemon/vinegar under the sink, and refill the bottle whenever necessary.
I hope you try this all-purpose cleaner and enjoy!
